Too Many People Flying

Guest post from cousin Billy Bob the Yankee Doodle Badger who vents his frustration with the great unwashed flying public he is forced to share his frequent flights to the UK with.

As much as the severe deterioration of the flying experience is due to our being abused, harassed, and stolen from by the power-heady, moronic orangutans staffing the TSA, it can be equally laid at the door of an unfortunate societal shift once publicly noted (to her cost) by Barbara Walters: namely, that far too many of the people flying today really belong on Greyhound buses.

An off-the-cuff comment was harshly criticized and she was roundly excoriated for having made it, but the fact is that she was entirely accurate. And the situation has only become worse in the years since her observation was made.

As do so many others here, I remember the days when people on flights dressed well, behaved well, showed courtesy and consideration to others and-- unlike an UNBELIEVABLE number of those in today's skies-- actually BATHED! Today it's appallingly common (on so many levels) to experience fellow fliers who are sloppy, filthy, drunken, boorish, vulgar messes who, in all decency, should probably have been put down at birth.

I wouldn't mind at all seeing the price of flights to London quadruple if it meant that creatures of that ilk returned to their natural level and took a bus. Sadly, however, due to the growing prevalence of trash with money, they're found from one end of a plane to the other, and are unlikely to be discouraged by a major price hike.

Perhaps, rather than regulating the airlines, it's time to begin regulating the passengers. Given some of the comments I've heard, I suspect that I'm far from alone in these views.
