Marathon Fundraising

Howdy Badger buddies - I had the joy of receiving an email from cousin Herb today - a relaxed badger who enjoys Californian dreaming.  He wanted to drum up support for a charity fundraising idea opportunity he has.

Herb wrote:

I’ve run the SF marathon every year for the last 7 years and I will continue to run it until I can't run marathons anymore . . It is the most spectacular marathon. . It is amazing to run through such a beautiful city, over the Golden Gate bridge and finish right at the water and Embarcadero. The weather is perfect too! There is not another marathon to compare it to unless you travel out of the country (yes, including Boston!)

After finishing the San Francisco marathon you can run anywhere – it’s definitely the hardest urban marathon around. The hills were challenging, but very rewarding to see the finish line at the end. each time I run again I hope to get a better time.

Indeed the full running event is 25,000 runners (full marathon and two half-marathons), but of that crowd we have around 7,000 runners who are dedicated to running the full 26.2 miles. Last year, we had just under 6,000 marathoners start the course. We currently have nearly 1,000 spots left for the 2010 full marathon and spots remaining for the second half marathon.

Nice one Herb - now here's a video taken by Oxfam to promote their fundraising activities during the London marathon

Too Many People Flying

Guest post from cousin Billy Bob the Yankee Doodle Badger who vents his frustration with the great unwashed flying public he is forced to share his frequent flights to the UK with.

As much as the severe deterioration of the flying experience is due to our being abused, harassed, and stolen from by the power-heady, moronic orangutans staffing the TSA, it can be equally laid at the door of an unfortunate societal shift once publicly noted (to her cost) by Barbara Walters: namely, that far too many of the people flying today really belong on Greyhound buses.

An off-the-cuff comment was harshly criticized and she was roundly excoriated for having made it, but the fact is that she was entirely accurate. And the situation has only become worse in the years since her observation was made.

As do so many others here, I remember the days when people on flights dressed well, behaved well, showed courtesy and consideration to others and-- unlike an UNBELIEVABLE number of those in today's skies-- actually BATHED! Today it's appallingly common (on so many levels) to experience fellow fliers who are sloppy, filthy, drunken, boorish, vulgar messes who, in all decency, should probably have been put down at birth.

I wouldn't mind at all seeing the price of flights to London quadruple if it meant that creatures of that ilk returned to their natural level and took a bus. Sadly, however, due to the growing prevalence of trash with money, they're found from one end of a plane to the other, and are unlikely to be discouraged by a major price hike.

Perhaps, rather than regulating the airlines, it's time to begin regulating the passengers. Given some of the comments I've heard, I suspect that I'm far from alone in these views.

The natural look - wear flowers

Flowers for Fashion

Some great summer time tips about fashion accessories that will brighten up the simplest of outfits.

Wearing flowers is becoming more and more popular as a way to create a personal look.  Floral patterns, traditionally the realm of high street ladies underwear can now be changed on new season dresses simply by picking a selection of fresh flowers to attach to garments

You can also try fragrant flowers like jasmine or yellow witch's broom sprays. Some flowers, the smaller ones from a recent flower delivery perhaps, can be woven into wreaths using cotton threads and worn around a bun or the wrist. Do not try wild flowers, they are very delicate and wilt fast.

If your hair is slightly damp, as after a shower, the flowers will last longer! Roses last long too.

If you can get hold of it, and the occasion is flamboyant enough to wear it, try lotus, it is said to have a cooling effect, ideal for a warm summer's night.
